7 Best Podcasts for Kids

Back in my day, we didn’t have podcasts!

It’s back to school time! And though it’s been a while since I’ve been in primary school, I wanted to take a dive back into childhood and see what some of the most interesting top kids’ podcasts are. Below, I’ve made a shortlist of my suggestions, based on the reviews and what I thought I would listen to if I were a kid.

Here are some of my top suggestions, and a few others I found interesting towards the bottom. I encourage you to also take a look in the podcast world and see what’s out there! Let us know what your favorite shows for kids are and why!

The 7 Best Podcasts for Kids

  1. Reading Bug Adventures
  2. Allegro Magico, Musica clasica para ninos
  3. Timestorm
  4. Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest
  5. Smash Boom Best
  6. What If World – Stories for Kids
  7. Chompers

1. Reading Bug Adventures

Starter Episode: Bonus: A Dinosaur Adventure: Full Story, Parts 1 & 2

A literary adventure geared towards younger children. The podcast follows The Reading Bug and Lauren as they go on adventures based on books and meet different people from different places and times. It’s a fun podcast for kids and really opens up literature in a different way.

2. Allegro Magico, Musica clasica para ninos

Starter Episode: Guillermo Tell para Niños

A podcast in Spanish, that spends time acquainting children with classical music. Each episode explores a different composer or composition, and gives snippets of songs. The host, Claudia Ortiz, offers bits of information and history about the songs and composers as well. It’s a great podcast for kids to become familiar with the enchanting world of classical music!

3. Timestorm

Starter Episode: Trailer / Episode 1: The Storm

A serial fiction podcast interspersed with current social and pop culture bits, concerns, and references. We follow the Ventura twins, Alexa and Beni, as they share a time and inter-dimensional adventure in order to shed light on and preserve the history of their Puerto Rican culture. With great sound design and story sharing, Cocotazo Media, brings representation and the reclamation of culture to the table and a dynamic sci-fi podcast for kids (and adults) to enjoy.

4. Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest

Starter Episode: The Water of Life

By far my favorite that I’ve listened to (and I’ve listened to a lot!). Grimm, Grimmer, and Grimmest has a fun take on the Brothers Grimm story tales. A typical episode has the host, Adam Gidwitz, sharing a story with grade-school kids and asking for their occasional reflection or capturing their comments as a story is told with amazing sound design and enticing imagery descriptions. Pinna has only allotted a certain number of episodes on iTunes, however you can stream the other seasons on its platform – and just based on what’s available on iTunes, I think it would definitely be worth it.

5. Smash Boom Best

Starter Episode: Pizza vs Tacos

Dear Smash Boom Best podcast, you had me at ‘Pizza versus Tacos’. Mixing debate, history, and fun, this podcast pits two (dare I say, randomly chosen things) against each other and allows the listener to decide, based on the evidence provided, which of the two things is the best. Quirky and original, the podcast will certainly spark reflection in kids even after an episode has ended. And also, for the record, I prefer the best of both worlds: taco pizza. Don’t @ me.

6. What If World – Stories for Kids

Starter Episode: What if I had 101 best friends?

Host, Mr. Eric, brings a riveting world of creative stories to life in this podcast. He takes a brief moment in the beginning to listen to young listeners’ ideas for story plots and then creates an episode with a story based on the ideas. I laughed a lot while listening to this podcast, and considering that I have a great sense of humor (on good authority from half of my friends), I sincerely think this podcast is a hit with kids and adults in terms of entertainment value.

7. Chompers

Starter Episode: History Week Morning in North America

A podcast for smaller kids, this podcast airs twice daily podcast for kids as they brush their teeth. Intermittently, the host provides history tidbits and the occasional notification to switch brushing positions. Chompers allows kids to multitask while hearing songs or riddles, or learning interesting facts about people, places, and events.

As promised, here are several other shows that I found dynamic, interesting, but was not able to properly allow to shine with reviews!
