Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My! If you’re like me, then the fall season has quickly caught you by surprise. Leaves are crunching beneath your feet, championship chili recipes are being carefully crafted, and Krispy Kreme’s Pumpkin Spice Stuffed Donut is finally here for a limited time only.
And even more exciting to some (I’m looking at all the advanced statistical gurus and fantasy sports nerds) is fantasy football season is about to start. With college football’s week 1 already wrapped up and the NFL season kickoff just days away, some people are scrambling to keep up with all of the roster and coaching changes during the NFL offseason in preparation for their fantasy football drafts.
There are a plethora of expert rankings, statistical analysis, and bold predictions for the upcoming season that few people have time to sort through. Thankfully, there are some fantastic fantasy football podcasts that not only can help you win your fantasy football league, but also entertain you along the way. So without further ado, here are the top 5 fantasy football podcasts:
Starter Episode: 271: Bold Predictions
Hosted by the Editor-In-Chief at numberFire, JJ Zachariason is a fantasy football genius. Not only has JJ authored a fantasy football strategy book, “The Late Round Quarterback,” but he has also written for NBC Sport’s Rotoworld and has also been a featured writer for Pro Football Focus, so you know you’re getting solid fantasy commentary. While most fantasy football podcasts can be well over an hour long, most of The Late-Round Podcast episodes only run around 15 minutes, so they are perfect to listen to on your way to work or you can binge listen to a ton of episodes in one sitting. This is a very attractive way to listen to podcasts since you know you’re getting a lot of great content, but it is delivered very clearly and efficiently.
Starter Episode: Last-Minute Draft Advice w/ Andy Holloway (Ep. 389)
This podcast is great for people of all levels of experience in the fantasy football community. It features in-depth analysis from Mike Tagliere and is hosted by Bobby Sylvester. The two obviously have great chemistry and they make their show easy to listen to and even more importantly they do a great job explaining complicated statistical information in a way that is easy to understand. The FantasyPros collect rankings from over one hundred fantasy football experts in order to rank players into manageable tiers to help you draft, trade, and manage your fantasy team.
Starter Episode: McCoy, Singletary, Hyde & NFL Cutdown Day
Hosted by Christopher Harris this podcast is aimed at helping you win your fantasy league by providing breakdown analysis of game film in order to get a more in-depth understanding of how to draft and manage your fantasy football team throughout the season. Christopher Harris is an eight-year veteran of ESPN and has even been awarded the Best Fantasy Podcast by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association. This show is unique because Chris not only uses analytics and statistics, but he watches all of the game film from every game each week in order to establish a better opinion about players rather than just looking at a bunch of numbers on paper. His motto of “Film Don’t Lie” simply helps people produce winning fantasy teams.
Starter Episode: Dante Pettis Wave Pool
This podcast has a unique perspective on fantasy football. While a lot of shows have a ton of banter between multiple hosts, this show features The Podfather, Matt Kelley as he provides his analysis on the fantasy football landscape. Matt has a great insight into fantasy football coming from a sports analytics perspective. He dives deep into looking at the statistics and on top of that, he makes listening to the show entertaining. If you’re looking for an in-depth player analysis with tons of statistics, then this show definitely is for you. This podcast is more for the hard-core fantasy player that may need more insight into dynasty leagues and daily fantasy sports (DFS). Also, the fart sound effects he adds are hilarious and certainly make listening to the show more entertaining. Keep in mind this show is rated as explicit, so if that bothers you then you may want to find another fantasy football podcast to listen to.
And the #1 fantasy football podcast is… drumroll, please…
Starter Episode: Stash or Trash + Post Draft Panic
Topping our list at number one is The Fantasy Footballers. Without question, this is the most entertaining fantasy football podcast on the planet. Not only are hosts Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike “The Fantasy Hitman” Wright very knowledgable when it comes to playing fantasy football, but they have amazing chemistry on the air. They do a great job at balancing advanced stats/metrics and all of the typical fantasy football jargon with fun, witty, and comedic commentary.
The production of the show is also top-notch as they create their own musical bumpers and have their show organized into different segments such as “Stash or Trash” and “Put Me In Coach.” I think what makes the Fantasy Footballers most appealing is how connected they seem to be to their listeners, the #FootClan Community. They take calls from listeners and Twitter questions in an attempt to answer them and give their listeners practical fantasy football advice.
They seem genuinely interested and invested in helping their listeners in their conquest to fantasy football dominance. They also encourage their fans to interact with the show and even offer Patron subscribers a bonus weekly podcast and premium resources not available to the average listener. By far, this is the most entertaining, clever, interactive, and well-produced fantasy football podcast out there today.
So those are our top 5 rated fantasy football podcasts for this football season. If you are a fantasy football veteran or are just starting out, then all of these shows can give you a leg up on the competition in order to dominate your fantasy football league. So slide into a pair of your most comfortable slippers, ignite your pumpkin spice scented fall candle, and subscribe to these podcasts because the clock is ticking and the kickoff to fantasy football season is just hours away.
