Do you want to be the friend that knows the most about pop culture? How about explaining those fan-theories that will blow their minds? Listening to podcasts that dig deep into your favorite TV shows and movies are a sure way to get some bragging rights.

Some of my favorite podcasts are the ones that combine my love for all of these media forms. This allows me to connect with hosts and listeners that have similar ideas and thrilling predictions. It makes watching content much more interesting and multi-faceted. Watch your content at home and then learn more about it on your commute to work with one of these fascinating podcasts.

1. How Did This Get Made

Starter Episode: Look Who’s Talking Now (w/ Conan O’ Brien)

In this hilarious podcast, the hosts discuss how a movie can be “so bad that it’s amazing”. They watch these types of movies and then recap them for our listening pleasure. In this recommended starter episode, the hosts Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas are joined by none other than Conan O’ Brien. Together they run us through all of the important plot twists, highs, and lows of Look Who’s Talking Now.

2. Binge Mode: Harry Potter

Starter Episode: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,’ Ch. 1-5 I Harry Potter

The Ringer has brought us the most detailed chapter by chapter summary of one of the most nostalgic pieces of our time. Hosts Mallory Rubin and Jason Concepcion dive DEEP into Diagon Alley and take us with them on every twist and turn. This podcast feels like a class on your favorite subject. You fall more and more in love with the characters learning about them from a unique perspective. (I realize this podcast is more about the book series- but allow me to make this one exception.)

Binge Mode will be taking us far far away into the ‘Star Wars’ universe coming this fall. 

3. Pop Culture Happy Hour

Starter Episode: Fall TV Preview

NPR brings us this podcast to catch us up to speed on current television, movies, and all things pop culture. With so many streaming services, where do you even start for this season’s best TV? They are excited about shows like Undone on Amazon Prime and The Politician on Netflix. What shows do they think will stick around for more seasons? Listen as they make their predictions.

4. The Recappables

Starter Episode: ‘Lost,’ S4E5: “The Constant” I Best TV Episodes of the 21st Century

What episode tops the list of The Ringer’s, The 100 Best TV Episodes of the Century? One of my all time favorite shows, Lost, was granted this award for its episode “The Constant”. Juliet Litman, Chris Ryan and David Shoemaker review why this episode was Lost at its best. 

The Recappables gives extensive knowledge and explanations to some of today’s top shows like Stranger Things and Atlanta.

5. Filmspotting

Starter Episode: Top 5 Films of 2019 So Far

Hosts Adam and Kempenaar and Josh Larsen walk us through their separate lists of great 2019 movies thus far. Hear about new movies like Us and Toy Story 4 and why these are considered some of today’s Must-See movies.

6. Bachelor Happy Hour with Rachel & Ali

Starter Episode: One on One with Mike Johnson

As a big fan of The Bachelor franchise, I couldn’t miss this opportunity to share this new podcast from Wondery. On this episode, we get to hear from one of BachNation’s favorite personalities, Mike Johnson. He shares how he originally got casted on Hannah Brown’s season, and what his life looks like today. Join Rachel Lindsay and Ali Fedotowsky-Manno as they get these exclusive interviews.  

7. Inside Jaws

Starter Episode: Becoming Spielberg

Start at the beginning to learn more about the classic movie and surrounding events of JAWS. What were the effects of creating such a splash in Hollywood? From his interests as a kid, to the household he grew up in- you will learn how Spielberg… became Spielberg.
